What is Joomla?
Joomla is an award-winning content management system (CMS), which enables you to build Web sites and powerful on line applications. Many aspects, including its ease-of-use and extensibility, have made Joomla the most popular Web site software available. The basic idea of Joomla (or any web content management system for that matter) is that a non-technical person often needs to be able to keep their own website up-to-date without having to call on a web developer to make changes every time. Of course there are some things that can only be done by a web developer, but for simpler tasks such as changing the wording of a paragraph, it is an unnecessary burden and expense for both parties if you have to get a developer to make the changes.
If it is so easy, why do I need a website developer to build my website?
That is a good question with a simple answer. As stated above, Joomla is a CMS or Content Management System. This basically means that "after" your website has been designed by a professional developer and uploaded to a server for hosting, pretty much anyone with word processing skills can "manage" or "edit" the content of the articles or pages of the website. If you need to change the wording in a paragraph on a particular page, you just login to the website, click on the "edit" icon and a word processor interface pops up for you to make changes. If you want to change the price or details of a product, it is handled in the same manner.

Joomla therefore attempts to separate the technical tasks from the non-technical by providing tools to help a non-technical person manage and organize the content of their website. It also provides additional tools which help to add more functionality to a site (by installing ready-made components, for example to add a guest book, forum, events calendar, etc).
Developing your Joomla Website - What we do..
Communicate: The first and most important step is to communicate with you so that we can gather as much information as possible from you in order to get an idea of what type of website you want. Who is your target audience? What type of information do you want to provide? Are you selling a product or service? What kind of layout and colors do you want?, etc.. You may even have some websites you like that you want us to take a look at to give us an idea of how you want your website to look and perform.
Build a Template: The template of any website is like the frame and walls of a house. It provides the structure and the appearance that should be designed in a manner that invites people to want to come in and stay awhile. After we have established what kind of layout and color scheme you want, we begin to create the template using HTML, PHP and CSS code. These are website design computer languages that tell your browser how to display a website. This is where having a trained professional developer is essential. This is all the "behind the scenes" stuff that creates a structured environment to contain your content. Once the template is created we will begin to add the content (articles, images, logos, applications, etc..) All of this will be created on a "mock up" or "dummy" site on our server so that you can see what we have created before you give the OK for us to make it official.
Fine Tuning: Once we have created the template and added all of the content we will talk with you in order to ensure you are 100% satisfied with the results. During this stage we want to make sure we make any changes needed in order to hear you say WOW! That is exactly what I wanted. When you are completely satisfied with the website we have created for you, we will then teach you how to manage it using the Joomla administrator interface. This is a service we provide because we want you to have as much access and control over your website as you feel comfortable with. However, if you would prefer that we manage and maintain your website, we can do that too.
